I’m talking about, like, Sherlock or Lizzie Bennet Diaries but in book form (and I do have both the spin off books) . I’ve found several modern spins on Henry VIII and his six wives but I’m wondering if there are any that are in the public domain, like Little Women or some other classic.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver is a wonderful modern retelling of David Copperfield, it’s a really excellent and heartfelt read.
*Country* by Michael Hughes is a retelling of The Odyssey set in Ireland during the Troubles
Also, Emily Wilson published a new translation of The Odyssey that is phenomenal. So not really a retelling, but a better translation
I love Stephen Fry’s retellings, both Heroes and Mythos.
Cloud Cuckoo Land is a masterful retelling of the Greek play The Birds. I suppose Ulysses is a retelling of Homer’s Odyssey, but I like Anthony Doerr’s novel more.
Julia by Sandra Newman, just came out last month is a retelling of 1984, from Julia’s perspective. It was made with approval of Orwell’s estate
Song of Achilles (taken from the Iliad) and Circe (a spin on part of the Odyssey) by Madeline Miller.
For Little Women, there’s “Meg & Jo” and “Beth & Amy” by Virginia Kantra, which are modern retellings of the story focusing on two of the girls. Cosy and romantic chick lit.
“March” by Geraldine Brooks is about Mr. March while he’s away at the war.
“Anne of Manhattan” by Brina Starler is a modern day Anne of Green Gables set in NYC.
