Hello, I’m 17 and I’m new to this community, firstly, I wanna ask something regarding my attention span, my parents have let me stay on my phone for hours since childhood, as they didn’t know nor were curious enough to find a healthy hobby for me (I loved drums as a kid but they couldn’t find a teacher), as I always went to my phone whenever I was bored, nowadays my screentime is between 7-11 hours, I have recently read a chemistry book I loved for 2 hours, I also have been trying to lower my screentime by doing home chores, learning things and drawing, but my main question is, can I recover my ability to read books? Even after so much stimulation? I also used to play games for hours, around 5 or 7 hours.

If you can focus on gaming for around 5 or 7 hours, you will have no problem reading books that engage you as much as those games, may just take a while to find out what you enjoy reading.
Yes you can!!!
I’m not a fan of reading goals and all that tracking and “productivity” stuff … but in your case it might be a good idea as a training method. Like, start with a goal of ten pages a day and once that has become a habit and feels easy up your goal to 15 etc.
Also, if electronic devices feel like too much of a distraction – there’s on off switch. Or the option to move it to another room.
Have you thought about reading on your phone?
There are a few apps that you could use to read. Of course the Kindle app but you can do Libby through the library. Book Funnel and Prolific Works are apps that you can sign up for to find books.
I am sure others will know about more sites.
You can do anything that you want. I would say find a genre you like for IRL books and use the sites to explore at little to no cost.
You might want to try audiobooks while doing other things. Great for mindless chores, commutes or even video games you can just sort of feel the flow of. It can help ease you into it if you’re used to being bombarded with multiple points of stimulation.
