For starters, I enjoyed “Before I Go to Sleep” and “The Housemaid”. Any similar recos? It would be a plus if the main characters are adults/couples instead of teenagers.
I specified “in the 21st century” because personally, thrillers set in the Victorian era etc just aren’t for me.
