A little about us:
We’re both 23. I (23f) am a big reader. Mostly fiction, and mostly by women. My fave authors include Elena ferrante, Ann patchet, Donna tartt, etc. you get the idea.
He’s not a big reader, but mostly because he studied math and computer science in college and had very little time to read for pleasure. With that said, I know his favorite book from high school is italo calvinos if on a winter night a traveler. I suggested Albert Camus’ the stranger to him and he really enjoyed that.
So, looking for books he might enjoy, preferably contemporary fiction. And preferably something I might enjoy too so we can discuss!
Thanks!

No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai
The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
Hello, there, I’m a first time author and I’ve written a book called “No Turning Back” which is available on Amazon if you’re into action adventure/fantasy stories.
“No Turning Back” is about a young man named Peter James who is very keen and eager to become a successful story writer until he bumps into a young woman named Jenny Wallis who is on the run from three mysterious men, two of them are trained hitmen while the other, who calls himself Master Ruthless, is a tall figure who possesses magical but dangerous powers.
In Jenny’s possession, she holds a piece of paper with a spell written on it which would destroy Master Ruthless once and for all but the spell is incomplete and when she tells Peter about her situation he refuses to believe her until much later when he sees Jenny being confronted by her pursuers with his own eyes, resulting in Peter going on the run himself while Jenny is taken hostage by Master Ruthless.
Now on the run, Peter, who enlists help from his friend Nick Turner, are chased all over the town of Kingfisher Grove by Master Ruthless’ henchmen, calling themselves Gunner and Bomber, as both Peter and Nick try to avoid capture and death while they try to complete the missing half of the spell in order to destroy Master Ruthless and save Jenny from imprisonment.
The link for the book is: amazon.co.uk/dp/1800945493
I hope you find this book enjoyable.
Thank you for your time.
If he likes Maths and Computer Science, then Snowcrash or Seveneves (by Neal Stephenson) might be up his street. In a similar vein, The Martian by Andy Weir.
I would also recommend A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan – a bit out there a suggestion but an excellent and super readable book that I think transcends genre and that you would both potentially enjoy.
Maybe something by Jorge Luis Borges? He might like Ficciones or some of his short stories.
Since he studies a lot and doesn’t have time for reading, might he like something sci-fi, but fun and easy? Like The Martian or Red Rising?
Or even some literary sci fi? Cosmicomics (also by Italo Calvino), Slaughterhouse Five or The Doomsday Book would be my suggestions
