This might sound silly, but I love the Hunger Games because of how it tackles war, propaganda, and shows how even the “good” side can behave in evil ways in the name of a just cause (Gale and Coin).
Also the anime Attack on Titan goes into these topics and shows how war/conflict/hate only bring more hate and violence. The people one side considers saviors are seen as devils to the other side.
Can you recommend any fiction books that similarly touch on war/oppression and the ambiguity between good and evil?

The Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko
I’m going to suggest two fanfics – Alexandra Quick and the Rigel Black Chronicles. Both well written and moral complexity.
Both Dune and ASOIAF also have this in spades.
And while it’s not a war, All the Kings Men is one of the most cynical novels I’ve ever read.
The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia by Ursula K. Le Guin
The Expanse fits this perfectly. Sci-Fi near future, it includes the politics of colonizing space, some moral ambiguity, and great characters.
I’d recommend going into it blind, it’s a series of 9 books, but you’ll know if you’ll like it after the first.
