Looking for a book I would have read around 2007ish. It’s YA and I think fantasy, also part of a series I believe. The books cover is primarily of a piece of girls jewelry (not fancy jewelry) that has a group? of jems that are of different colors. The protagonist is a girl is school still? and a slightly older guy comes along who know about powers? that she’s getting and doesn’t know. I think he gives her the jewelry to help her with the powers or suppress them at the beginning. At some point the guy lives in a gated community that the gate attendant has the protagonists name and lets her through until the protagonist and guy have a fight and he removes her name from the approved list and she tries to break in.
