I don’t understand why it’s critically acclaimed and awarded the Nobel prize in literature. I understand the rich and complex portrayal of characters, Intergenerational saga, allegory and symbolism and the magical realism. But what’s the point? Maybe I’m not a patient mood to appreciate the story. I do like the narrative style and details. But why was there lot of sexual oppression of women? I also don’t get whenever such raw and wild thoughts of humans are weaved into a complex story, it gets extremely popular and appreciated as if nobody else wrote about them before.
East of Eden by John Steinback is another similar book which deals with such raw, wild or rather thoughts that seem unholy in a society. I liked that book way better than this one. Let me know your thoughts about this.
