I rarely if ever read the dust jacket or the back summary. I do what my dad taught me: read the first three pages or so and if there’s enough to enjoy, read the book. The only time I read something on the cover/jacket is to learn about the author if I haven’t ‘met’ them before.

Yeah I’m reading a trilogy of plays and the cover of the second one spoiled me the whole story of the first. It was just a kneejerk movement and my eyes wandered. Grrrrrreat.

I was not required to read 1984 in high school, so when I picked up a copy at the bookstore I read the blurb on the back which started something like: “From the opening sentence to the final, reality-bending four words, George Orwell’s 1984…” and so on.

Of course, I immediately flipped to the last page and read __ _____ ___ _______.

I still bought and read the book, but I was like, for real publishers?
