When I was a kid I read a book about Mary Queen of Scots as told through a childhood diary. It was one of those Royal Diaries books and I absolutely loved it. I especially liked the focus on the queen and her ladies in waiting, all also named Mary.

I’d love to read something similar, but more adult. Are there any novels about her that you really loved?

Denise Mina, *Rizzio*. She does it as a crime novel.

I read up quite a lot about her when researching Edinburgh local history. Malignantly entitled stupid bigot. Marjorie Taylor Greene in lace frills. Her one redeeming feature was that she was a competent poet.

    2. {{Mary Queen of Scots by Stefan Zweig}} is more of an embellished biography than a novel, but it’s still worth reading
