My knowledge of politics, especially on the global scale, is basically non existent. I try to read political news but I don’t understand very much of what I’m reading. When I genuinely make an attempt to learn, it feels like I’m starting a new book in the middle and that I have missed out on a ton of crucial background information that would help me understand what it is I’m reading.

It’s extremely embarrassing for me to admit this, but there are times when a political figure comes up on TV and I have no clue who they are. I know the main players, the president and Vice President, but as far as the senators/representatives and which states they’re coming from, and whether they are red or blue, forget it. I basically need a flow chart or some type of infographic of the 50 states and their senators and representatives.

I want a better understanding of how laws are created. I want a better understanding corruption in politics and government, especially in political economics and how what goes on in one country affects the political systems and practices in another country.

Can anyone recommend books that could help me on this? Books that are unbiased and can truly help add to my understanding and knowledge of politicked and government. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

    1. I don’t know any books, but keep an open mind and keep reading. Stay tuned into trustworthy news sources and keep paying attention. There’s too much nuance to know everything about everywhere, so just try come to terms with the basics. Then, when you don’t know something allow yourself to say “I don’t know, but I’m interested to find out” and see where that gets you.
