I always try to be selective with my five star reviews for books, as I have certain criteria that must be met for a book to earn such high praise.
I will give 5 stars to a book if: it makes me cry, I want to immediately recommend it to everyone I know, I miss it after I’ve finished reading it and I can’t put it down.

It’s a smaller podcast/show, but I really like the rating guide that 2ToRamble uses. I’m not sure if they developed it or pulled from somewhere else. But you rate a book 1-10 across five categories; emotional impact, characters, plot, prose and world building.
Anything that gets a 9+ from me I would assign 5 stars. 7-9 is 4 stars and so on.
