    1. Not a book but a decently long novella “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King. It part of one of his anthologies whose name escapes me at the moment.

    2. The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner

The Big Girls by Susanna Moore

What Remains of Me by Alison Gaylin

Enchanted by Rene Denfield (fiction). The novel takes place primarily in a death row block. One of the characters, an investigator for one of the inmates, is based on the author’s personal experience as an investigator for death row inmates. Enchanted is a haunting, beautifully written story. I highly recommend it.

    4. Not the whole book, but The Stranger by Camus.

And of course, with the same clarification, Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas.

      – Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka
      – The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner
      – The Green Mile by Stephen King
      – The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
      – Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa (partially within a prison)

    6. Green River Rising by Tim Willocks. For my money, the best prison novel of the modern age.
