    Hello šŸ‘‹
Iā€™m currently a senior with a stats and machine learning major. I took my cultural studies class as an elective, but I ended up learning and liking it much more than I thought I would. So ig just keeping in mind my beginner status, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for my project.

The project requires me to choose a film, book, or any work outside of the US and write an essay about it through the lens of a cultural topic we went over, which were the following:

    1. Hegemony and the Intellectual (Gramsci, Antonio. Selections From Cultural Writings)

    2. The Subaltern (Ashis Nandy, “The Psychology of Colonialism” (from his book The Intimate Enemy))

    3. Science and Technology (Donna Haraway, “A Cyborg Manifesto: Science, Technology, and Socialist-Feminism in the Late Twentieth Century,”)

    4. Ecocriticism (Cheryll Glotfelty, Literary Studies in an Age of Environmental Crisis)

    5. Space and Place (Michel Foucault – Space, Power and Knowledge)

    6. Race and Identity (bell hooks, “A Revolution of Values: The Promise of Multicultural Change,”)

    7. Women and gender (Judith Butler, Performative Acts and Gender Constitution: An Essay in Phenomenology and Feminist Theory)

    8. Media Representation and Globalization (Mauryne Abwao and Suman Mishra, “Media, Culture, and News Framing of Disability in Kenya’s Daily Nation Newspaper,”)

I would also ask if you can recommend a book that I can read pretty quickly within the span of a busy and stressful finals week (if possible). Thanks! šŸ™‚
