The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon. It’s about a woman who is named executor to a former lover’s estate and discovers a conspiracy involving a centuries-long rivalry between two secret societies of couriers while investigating a stamp collection that’s part of the estate. It’s got a really mysterious, paranoid vibe to it but is also funny as shit with lots of crazy characters and fun puns and wordplay jokes. It’s super short at like 150 pages.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
It’s not my usual choice of topic, but the way she weaved the story, I just couldn’t put it down.
