Hi! Wanting to do some literary research to inspire a character I’m writing, a lonely and bitter young woman who feels unloved. Would ideally love some “classics” or modern classics/literary fiction. Catcher in the Rye is exactly the kind of thing I’d be looking for, but would especially love if the protagonist is female, not required though.

Female perspectives are sadly lacking but I think {{Mrs Dalloway}} comes close (but more about mortality and aging). With male protagonists however I think the following are particularly fine examples:
