So I recently finished reading I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman and I found it really compelling. While the plot was very interesting, I really liked the main character, the child, the most, and I found her philosophies and perspective on life very interesting.

Most of all, I love how I have come away from the book feeling grateful for my mind and how accessible learning new things is in this modern world. It was very inspiring to see the blessings of education through the eyes of an insightful character who was deprived of that opportunity and yet learned as much as possible in her circumstances.

I want to keep experiencing that kind of awareness, so I would love to read other books with similar characters and similar focuses on the privileges of humanity and knowledge. Any recommendations?

Nothing too depressing, please. IWHNKM was bleak, but I never felt it went into the melodramatic or overly sentimental, and I appreciated it for that.

    Thank you in advance!
