Hello fellow readers,
I am a casual science fiction affictionado and I had not yet read Foundation by Isaac Asimov. I just finished this book today.
On the last page of it, I saw a blurb about the next book, Foundation and the Empire. It talked about someone called a Mule and their supernatural abilities which sends Seldon plan to tatters.
Without giving any more spoilers, as I don’t know anything after the first book yet, do you think the rest of the books are as good or better than the first one?
I really enjoyed the first one because conceptually the way it used religion and trade was amazing and it’s vision mind boggling. But this supernatural aspect of the mule worries me a little. The first book is very realistic in a sense, but when you add supernatural elements, I’m not sure if it’s going to hold the DNA.
I might be entirely wrong, what do you guys suggest?

Isaac Asimov is a giant among sci-fi authors for a reason.
It’s been a long time since I read the series, but if I recall, the first three books are really good.
Just jump into the next book, don’t let anyone spoil the Mule before you read it.
It’s not a long read, and I ended up going through it simply to see where the story would end up. I think you’ll still enjoy it, but it is different, in the sense that it is set in one lifetime (if I remember correctly). No harm in continuing!
It get’s even better over time. You see the author becoming a better writer and trying new ideas. I actually liked the later books most.
As for the supernatural aspects, it’s more extreme empathy that is used, to be able to influence other’s minds. It is done in a way that really fits in with the story and the universe.
