I typically read memoirs/biographies, non-fiction, historical fiction, etc. Overall it seems like the choices I make lean towards more serious topics and themes. I need to stop this! My mind is too anxious and dark for this right now and I would love to read some novels that are a bit lighter. Keep in mind I’m not looking for anything toooo sweet, just some good fiction that won’t leave me depressed or pondering the meaning of the existence of humanity.

I love travel books, books set in Italy, a little bit of sci-fi, music. Thank you!

    1. {{The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis}} is a 2023 new release with historical, mystery elements that I would say is emotional and reflective, but not dark.

{{The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green}} is still nonfiction – essays/memoir – but reflects on the human experience in a more hopeful way. Really enjoyed the audiobook on this one! And I’ve heard there were additional essays only part of the audiobook too.

Bill Bryson is a hilarious, sunny-hearted, amiably discursive travel writer. you might especially like his notes from a small island (UK) or neither here nor there, about his travels through Europe.

I just embarked on in trouble again by Redmond O’Hanlon. I’m only about 20 pages in by already I have no idea what’s going to happen – except he’s setting off into the Amazon jungle with a London casino owner he knew at school.

    3. Neil Gaiman’s *The Ocean at the End of the Lane* is a good palette cleanser! It’s nice and short and is whimsical, it almost reminds me of a Studio Ghibli film! It is technically fantasy, but the magic in it isn’t explained in droning detail, in fact it is kept at an arms length that I think preserves its wonder.
