Hi all,
I’m in a reading slump, having started close to 5 books since September but DNF’ing them all. I need something entertaining, fun, and, if I may say it, an “easy read” to use as a palette cleanser to wash this slump off and start fresh. With that in mind, I’m looking for something fantasy-esque as I’d like to read a well-thought-out story yet gripping and full of the fantastical, magical, and whimsical. If it’s on the shorter side, that’d be a plus but not a requirement (as I said, “palette cleansing,” which often translates to not an epic tome).
Some books that come to mind that fit this description that I’ve already read are:
* ***Legends and Lattes*** **and** ***Bookshops and Bonedust*** **by Travis Baldree**
* ***The House in the Cerulean Sea*** **by T.J. Klune**
* ***The Lord of the Rings*** **series by J.R.R. Tolkien (including** ***The Hobbit*****)**
* **The** ***Harry Potter*** **series by J.K. Rowling**
* **The** ***Eragon*** **series by Christopher Paolini**
* ***Dark Matter*** **by Blake Crouch**
* ***A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking*** **and** ***Nettle and Bone*** **by T. Kingfisher**
* **The** ***Murderbot Diaries*** **by Martha Wells**
* ***The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches*** **by Sangu Mandanna**
Thanks for all the recommendations in advance! Happy reading 🙂

Seem like the obvious answers
If you’re open to science fiction instead of fantasy, I highly recommend the Becky Chambers books A Psalm for the Wild-Built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy. They are short novellas, cozy and charming, dealing with themes around identity and purpose, with a main character also struggling through a slump. They’re delightful reads that will make you feel better and (hopefully) help you find the fresh start you’re looking for.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
The Heartstriker series (starting with Nice Dragons Finish Last) by Rachel Aaron
