Inspired by a recent post I saw, what is a book or series that you really wanted to like but couldn’t bring yourself to finish for whatever reason?

For me it’s the Dresden Files. The story itself is everything I love; magic and monsters clashing with modern reality, great visual storytelling, and so much promise for a massive world to explore. Yet despite constant insistence it gets better with every book, and constant attempts to to get to that point, I have never made it past the third one. If I had to put words to it, the world never seems to pull me in the way other stories do. It’s actually a problem for me when reading that I get completely submerged in the reality of that story and I can’t consume any other media until that journey is done. Sadly, I never felt it with TDF.

    1. Jim Butcher has done TWO AMAs here [the first AMA](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/25q3em/i_am_jim_butcher_author_of_the_dresden_files_the/) & [the second AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/3lye65/i_am_jim_butcher_author_of_the_dresden_files_and/?) 🙂 [Here’s a link to all of our upcoming AMAs](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/wiki/amafullschedule)

    2. It’s really silly but A Court of Thorns and Roses. I grew up reading Harry Potter and when I was a teen series like Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent were all rage so I had great experiences reading something purely for pleasure and being part of community. I got really late to booktok and by that time ACOTAR was positively viral there so there was a lot of hype which got me excited… for nothing. I made myself finish the first book, couldn’t care less what happens next and when I saw multiple people arguing when it finally gets good, I just figured out that it’s not for me and that’s it.

2001: A space odyssey. I love sci-fi and especially the classics. Asimov is my favourite and I like many books by Clark, Heinlein and others. But for some reason I don’t like 2001. The first time I tried to read it I dnfed. The second I finished it but I still don’t like it

Dune. I had heard so much hype around the book and nostalgic comparisons to early Star Wars. But it was a drag to get through. I was not invested at all and felt the story was too meandering and unfocused. Not a fan of

    5. The Echoes Saga – but as described to me by the person who did. They said it was really fast moving and had a ton of comedy.

That first book was so wretchedly slow, boring, and the author had no consistency within his own story. Just hated it.
