As mentioned in the title, I spent my twenties shying away from reading after being a rather voracious reader in my youth. I instead turned to passions of games and cinema. I am now looking to get back into reading and would love some suggestions. A list of material (books, shows, genres, etc):
-fantasy
-thought provoking
-The Gunslinger (king)
-The Witcher Series
-The Black Tapes/Tanis (podcasts)
-GOT
-Luther (BBC show)
-Freakonomics
I normally read academic or non fiction nowadays but am looking for a book to grip me again.
I would prefer something on the darker side and less general fantasy; a book geared towards adults. I am very politically engaged so bonus points for sociataI/political intrigue.
Hope this info maybe helps? Apologies, I seem to be grasping at straws but have tried to provide information. Thanks for y’all’s help!!

Stormlight Archives series by Brandon Sanderson
Game of Thrones would be the obvious recommendation I guess.
The Kingkiller Chronicles are neither aimed at YAs nor adults specifically, I’d say, but they’re just an entertaining read that might be good to get you back into reading.
Also for something entirely different, why not try thriller/mystery/crim that also has a dark adult-oriented vibe like those of Stephen King, Karin Slaughter, Philip Kerr,…
