    Hi everyone,

A suspicious amount of people have tried to persuade me to read Dante’s Inferno, they were convincing enough to get me to buy ‘The Portable Dante’ by Mark Musa. I felt like I needed an annotated version, as I am not very familiar with the time period, biblical history and terminology AND poetry itself. I’m not sure what it’s like in other countries, but I didn’t learn anything about it during my 15+ years of school. I do have an ex with whom I have spent a few years, she studied English Language and Culture so she obviously had to read lots of literature, that’s about the extend of my knowledge on the matter.

I found that reading poetry is harder than it sounds, while I know how to ‘correctly’ read the lines, it still takes me a lot more time than a ‘regular’ book. I figured it might be better to try something else before getting into medieval stuff, but I would still love it to have a historical theme or background.

Are there any poets, books, bundles, anything that come to mind when I describe this? I have no idea where to look or what to look for, so I hope someone could point me into the right direction!
