Hi everyone! My place of work decided to start a monthly book club a couple of months ago. Each month a different colleague chooses the book we’re to read, and December is my turn. I need suggestions for books that are work appropriate but still interesting. So far, our selections have been: Same Time Next Summer (Annabel Monaghan) and The Exchange (John Grisham). I’d like to choose a different genre. It can’t be a book I’ve read before, but to give some examples of what I like, I’m a fan of magical realism, transgressive fiction, southern gothic, and picaresque. But it can’t be anything too nsfw. I’d love any suggestions!

    1. Look at “The Sweet Hereafter” by Russell Banks. Not too long, generated good discussion in our book group.
