Hi all! I’m back again because the recommendations I got last time were so good!

I’m putting together a holiday donation for a home for troubled youth in my area. One of the things they requested are activities for the house like games, art supplies, and books! I don’t want to just get them fluff books but I also want to avoid topics that might be too heavy for them. I think they currently have kids ranging 10 to 18 years old, but I imagine that varies. Ideally I’ll get them a variety to cover the different ages and interests. I’m excited to hear what y’all suggest!

    1. Some Discworld books! They’re so great for the full age range 10-18, they’re engaging and funny and subversive

Watership Down by Richard Adams, there’s also a graphic novel of this book illustrated by Joe Sutphin and adapted by James Sturm.

Seconding Discworld. I’ve only read two Discworld books (Small Gods and Guards! Guards!), but I really enjoyed them. I want to get the rest of the City Watch books at some point (and some of the books focusing more on Death as a character), though Guards! Guards! works great as a standalone imo. If you search for it, you can find plenty of recommendations on which Discworld books are best for newcomers.

    4. Anything written by Gordon Korman

One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus

Once (and the other books) by Morris Gleitzman
