I have a question (is it a question or do i just want to talk about it lol) for those who have read The Pale Blue Eye by Louis Bayard. There is a scene that takes place a little while before the climax of the book where Poe is walking back to his quarters after meeting Landor at the bar and in the dark Artemus approaches him, asks him some personal questions and… flirts with him? Now i know the questions were meant to get answers of whether or not Poe was a virgin, ya know, for the sacrifice.. but what about pressing Poe’s fingers to his lips, all that? It never mentions it in the book again, unless I missed it. In fact, Landor actively “ignores” the question of ‘what if Leroy Fry was meeting not a woman, but a man’, and such. Was it just to gauge Poe’s /innocence/ or was it genuine? It’s never mentioned again, and I really loved whatever it added, even if I can’t quite name it. It definitely made me much more fond of Artemus as a character. I think obviously we all have to make up our mind for it ourselves, I guess I am just slightly shocked and in awe, poking you all to check I’m not imagining it, lol, and wanting to talk about it. I can’t find anyone mentioning it online either.
