All my sister wants for Christmas is a fantasy series she can fall in love with (high expectations, I know).
She particularly loves Sarah J. Maas, Samantha Shannon, and TJ Klune (but less so than Maas and Shannon). She also loved The Night Circus when she read it many years ago.
Things she does not like:
– Sci-fi. For example, the idea of reading something like Dune makes her literally recoil.
– Fantasy centered on violence (ex: Game of Thrones)
Finally, for context, she did decide to go back and read the Harry Potter series but it’s not engaging her the way she wanted it to because she already knew most of what would happen based on movies. For this reason, Lord of the Rings is unfortunately out.
Thank you for any and all suggestions!

The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix
Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve
Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce
Might enjoy a few of these:
Air Awakens series by Elise Kova
Téméraire and Scholomance series both by Naomi Novik
The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa
Medium Trouble by Alice Winters
Drakon by Shana Abe
Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie
Poison Study and Touch of Power by Maria v Snyder
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Also, if she didn’t read Percy Jackson or Kane Chronicles when she was younger as well- highly recommend as those ones are fantastic! Hunger Games and Divergent series are also pretty great if not spoiled by the movies either!
{{A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos}}, it’s the first book in the La Passe-Miroir series.
Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series
The Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden
