Hello, smart and attractive literature people. Back in college, I read a couple of short stories that I can’t stop thinking about lately. Only problem is, I can’t remember their names at all, nor the names of their writers. Googling them has been fruitless, so I’m hoping that if I describe them here, someone can point me in the right direction.

The first one is about a metal band that goes in surprising directions when one bandmate’s girlfriend joins the group. It’s first-person POV and the most metal narration ever committed to paper. I can’t recall much else besides the ending, where the band finally reaches a new height in popularity at a show before suddenly launching into a Broadway show tune (I think “Bali Hai”?). It’s funny, it’s awesome, and it’d be a dream to reread it.

The next one was one professor’s example of how to use POV. It switches between three perspective characters across six sections, and each character has their own distinct writing style that captures something of how they view themselves and the world. It involves a guy kidnapping a young woman, and another man nearly killing that guy with a huge rock before relenting. Might not sound like much when put that way, but the plot isn’t nearly as important and interesting as the prose.

If anyone can identify even one of these, I’d be overjoyed. Thanks just for reading through this.
