    Hey there!

I’m looking to get a book or two for my mom for Christmas. My dad (her husband) passed away in October this year, so ideally it would be something light hearted.

Recently, she read Book Lovers by Emily Henry and really enjoyed that.

My mom is a 70 year old lawyer, who would usually go for crime/mystery, but she specifically mentioned she was looking for something light hearted.

Let me know if I can provide any more details, and thanks in advance!

    **Fiction only, please!

If she enjoyed Book Lovers she might enjoy When in Rome duology by Sarah Adams, it’s a cute small town romance, the first book is When in Rome and the second book is Practice Makes Perfect.

      Anxious people by Freidrick Backman.

Absolutely amazing, heartwarming, heartbreaking book. One of my all time favourites

    3. There are light hearted crime novels. The Agatha Raisin series springs to mind (and there are a lot of them). The Maigret novels too are gentle and the depiction of Paris in the first half of the 20th century adds another layer of interest.

    4. **The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax**

      By: Dorothy Gilman

      **Publisher’s summary**

Mrs. Virgil (Emily) Pollifax of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was a widow with grown children. She was tired of attending her Garden Club meetings. She wanted to do something good for her country. This first in the series sends Emily on her first case after she successfully persuades a skeptical CIA recruitment officer that she is the best person for the job.

      **Dead Medium**

      By: Peter John

      **Publisher’s summary**

“The strangest things happen when you’re dead.” (May Elizabeth Trump) The deathly silence is about to be broken. She disliked the company of others and death did little to warm her spirit. She had led an independent life and she faced death in much the same way. She was finally alone, finally free from the mindless babble of others, at least that’s what she thought. May Elizabeth Trump was the rarest of spirits and she was none too happy about it either. She was a dead medium, a ghost who can speak with the living, and her services were to become in great demand. Flung into the limelight and smothered with unwanted attention, May soon discovers that it is not only ghosts with long awaited messages that have taken an interest in her. Something dark was lurking in the shadows, stalking her. Even the dead are not left to rest in peace. Dead Medium: A humorous, character driven story and a unique vision of life after death. Not your average ghost story.

      – **The Thursday Murder Club** series by Richard Osman is one of my favs. The basic premise is that a group of people living in a retirement home decide to start an amateur true crime detective club. Every book is hilarious.

Second time I’m recommending this today, but Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree was a super easy, quick, and uplifting read.
