Not looking for baby books, but books that we’d like to read. The goal is to read out loud so baby can hear our voice, inflections and language… while tired and rusty reading out loud.
Looking for books that are playful, thoughtful and story-driven.
Playful like Princess Bride, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Uprooted, The Eyes of the Dragon, Neil Gaiman novels.
Thoughtful like The Prophet, The Tao of Pooh, Letters to a Young Poet
Open to poetry or non-fiction, especially if helpful to our situation (new parents).
I just want to avoid dense, monotone books or ones that feel like a chore.
Thanks in advance!

It’s a lovely story. The animal characters make it a touch whimsical. It has a nice rhythm.
*The Alchemist* by Paolo Coelho
Shadow Castle by Marian Cockerel is one I grew up with. Castle hidden in the woods, stories of fairies and goblins, magic and love.
