I had recently watched the movie and was super bummed that they hadn’t made a second one and, it seems, they will probably never make a second one. That’s when I found out it was a book series and got SUPER stoked when I realized I could still find out what happens to Ruby and the rest of the kids. I do not understand why producers HAVE to ruin a really good book to movie adaptation. Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and LOTR were done quite well even though they couldn’t add all of the things in the books. Heck, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe movie I feel was better done than the book! Harry Potter was a little iffy, but the movies were solid even though the characters were not well represented. The Darkest Minds? A total. Flop. I absolutely hate when producers completely change the story line of the book when turing it into a movie. The book series had a huge fan base and, I feel, would’ve done AMAZING if the producers wouldn’t have changed so much. It’s like the Percy Jackson series all over again.

If you like dystopian books, I would recommend reading the first book and seeing how well you like it! I have finally finished the first and I’m on to the second book. If you have Amazon Prime, I recommend watching the movie to see what a shit storm it is (either before or after you read the book). It’s also on freevee if you don’t have prime. It’s about this weird disease that infiltrates America (not entirely sure if it is actually across the world or just America). Kids around puberty age are the only ones getting sick. Most are dying. The ones who survive it have weird side effects from it that give them different levels of power. They put the kids into groups based on color for their powers. Green, blue, yellow, red, and orange. Greens have enhanced intelligence. Blues have the power of telekinesis. Yellows are electrokinetic. Reds have pyrokinesis. Oranges have mind control and are telepathic. They are rounding up these kids and putting them into camps. Even against the wishes of the parents. Of course, these camps are brutal and cruel. Eventually, the main character escapes and is on the run with three other kids she meets after escaping. They try to navigate life while being on the run from the camp soldiers, bounty hunters, and the children’s league. They hear about a safe place for kids with powers that is run by someone known as the slip kid who got his name from escaping custody so many times. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’m leaving it there lol definitely a good read!
