I’m doing a little worldbuilding project and am looking for some sources of inspiration. I’m looking for apocalyptic plots where the big bad evil thing is unavoidable. The last survivors are weak and scattered and there’s no chance of rebuilding civilisation, so they can only live out their last days on a planet more barren each day. That vibe.
Good examples of the feel I’m looking for are the Pale from Disco Elysium and the whole plot of the Gospels of the Flood audiobook.

I think you’re like the first person I know that actually remembers the Pale from DE over like anything else about it.
*Roadside Picnic* might count in here, though the message of the book isn’t necessarily hopeless (same as DE there though). It’s also less immediately threatening so much as it warps society around it.
