Heya I just got done reading Scott Siglers “The Crypt” and it has awoken something ancient and terrible in me. The lust for horror Sci-Fi. Please do suggest me some thrilling tales set in the far or near future. Bonus points if there is strange and eldritch technology involved. Something like bio-technology for example.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. This is probably not going to fit beyond your mention of bioships, but I loved Anne McCaffrey’s Brainship series. It started with The Ship Who Sang, and then she had co writers. That’s where I was introduced to Mercedes Lackey.

The premise is that kids who wouldn’t otherwise live are put in life support pods and trained to function as brains until they are old enough to be placed in a ship. They are paired with a physical pilot, aka a brawn, and are basically slaves to this corporation until all of their medical care and the ship itself is paid for, but that is nearly impossible to do as they are charged for every tiny thing.

The City Who Fought is really good. Same premise but the brain is in charge of a space station that is taken over by aliens.

Not horror, but Anne Leckie’s Imperial Radch series has some great strange technology.

It’s not far future, but T Kingfisher’s The Hollow Places is kind of weird horror sci fi

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s recommendations, because I can’t think of something that fits exactly!
