I’m currently reading the Julia Fox memoir and really love the grittiness of it. Looking for something similar but not Cherry (hated this book). Something that evokes the feeling of a romance novel but also the desperation of addiction. Movies that have a similar vibe to what I’m looking for include American Honey and Dixieland (with Riley Keough).

the vampire diaries, hear me out, the main character is a teenager in love with a boy who has a addiction problem, whos brother has a even worse addiction problem that then takes it out on everyone and tries to steal the girl. the whole thing reads like a major addiction issue. Also ya. if you have the stomach for it requiem for a dream is a book.
Top Girl – Danielle Marin, might work.
Jesus’ Son by Denis Johnson. On some level it’s about a drug addict who’s in love with the world and it’s overall strangeness. However a few of the stories that make up the full work are about his relationships with women. They’re chaotic, abusive, and darkly romantic at times, as expected from junky lover stories.
Also it’s a movie but check out The Panic in Needle Park, Joan Didion wrote the screenplay.
Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance by Irvine Welsh.
Might not be exactly what you are after but it’s about love and about drugs. Really good book.
Show: Heaven Knows What – about 2 in love heroin addicts in NYC – mostly a true story with real people (as opposed to actors). It’s hard to watch but so good.
Book: A Million Little Pieces by James Frey – there was controversy that part of his memoir was fabricated but it’s still a really good book about drug addiction
Candy by Luke Davies
Edit: Is also a movie of the same name.
