I will most likely not have any internet and it will be the most perfect time to read. I will list some things that I have enjoyed to give an idea of what I like.

I am deeply intrigued by the combination of **science, mysticism, technology, fiction, religion**, etc.

\-I love the movie Dune, and that is one of the books I intend to read.

\-The tv show Raised by Wolves.

    \-Arrival (2016)

    \-The Fifth Element

\-Greek Mythology, mythology in general, I am interested in reading something related to Mesoamerican mythology.

I am a 21 year old young man, and I would like some books suggested pertaining to **life advice**, **introspection**, and things of that nature. Something more **real and raw** that you would recommend to someone my age that is trying to figure it out.

I would also like a book suggestion about **gay romance, nothing cheesy/corny**. I would like a book that is more **subtle and not too sex orientated**. Something more **realistic**, and not some prince kind of dreamy fairytale junk. Preferably not with a plot that is about not being able to be together because its “forbidden”, but if the book is that interesting I’ll allow it. I’m leaning towards something about **young love** with **some adventure,** and **moments of emotional depth.**

Also a **cookbook** about **learning to cook with minimal ingredients** or just a cookbook pertaining to **basics** like the styles of cutting, what kind of material is best to cook on, the versatility of ingredients, best way to cook meats and how, “survival hacks,” etc.

I’m also open to any kind of **intuitive recommendations** you get from just interacting with my post.

***Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to read through this and to those who give recommendations!!!***

    1. *Salt, fat, acid, heat.* For a cookbook. It teaches basics but also gets really into the science which you might like.

It might be too bulky to bring on vacation though.

*Perdido Street Station*, *The Scar* and *Iron Council* by China Mieville tick a lot of these boxes. They’re not a trilogy but they are set in the same world. It’s adult science fiction that is more challenging than the average I’d say, decidedly not YA. *Railsea* by the same author is a much breezier story in a different setting. Mieville specializes in insanely imaginative world building but there’s a lot going on under the surface

*Beyond Good and Evil* by Friedrich Nietzsche is surprisingly approachable for a fairly dense philosophy book.

    3. *Prophet*, by Helen Macdonald and Sin Blaché.

Checks off so many of your criteria it could have been written to spec. Not a cookbook, though!

You are likely to enjoy **Childhood’s End, by Arthur C. Clarke**, and **Sphere, by Michael Crichton**.

If you’re reading Dune, I’d recommend bringing at least Messiah with you as well—it reads very much like an extended epilogue to Dune and a prequel to Children of Dune. Children of Dune was really good as well.

If We Were Villains – M.L. Rio was a well written book with a MM romance. Not cheesy or corny at all and very subtle (I think there’s only one kiss on page if I’m remembering right).

Normal People by Sally Rooney I’d recommend as a book that looks at modern relationships in a real way—it’s a MF relationship if that matters

Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk helped me when I was younger and I’ve always felt it was better than Fight Club.

Well, since you liked Arrival, add “Stories of Your Life and Others” and “Exhalation”, both by Ted Chiang, to your list. Arrival is based on a short story from the former and the latter is another collection of excellent short stories.

      – The Prague Cemetery by Umberto Eco
      – Maya by Jostein Gaarder
      – The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
