Hey all, not a huge sci fi giy but I’ve read a lot of the well know ones, from Huxley to Tchaikovsky to Martha Wells. I really love the social and tech commentary that Doctorow has in his fiction writing as well as his kind of hopefulness. If you know what I mean. Anyone have any books along the lines of “Little Brother” or whatever?

    1. In addition to Sarah Pinsker, there are also the authors Peter Watts and Neal Stephenson, who all have somewhat similar writing styles that focus a lot on technology and society. In particular:

      * By Neal Stephenson, you may like Reamde (modern day thriller, realistic depiction of cybercrime) or Snow Crash (really old, but a great classic and the book that coined the word Metaverse)

      * Peter Watts is pretty bleak and not hopeful, but you may like the Rifters series beginning with Starfish. These books are available as free ebooks on his website and use a lot of real science.

    2. Take a look at *Catfishing on Catnet* and *Chaos on Catnet* by Naomi Kritzer. They’re hopeful and the “gang of kids get together with tech (sentient computer entity) to solve a problem” vibe is there, too.
