In Sunlight In a Beautiful Garden is about the Johnstown Flood and the economic divide of the extreme wealthy people using the club where the dam will fail and the hard working blue collar workers below. Because you know what’s coming, like on the Titanic, it’s a propulsive read to see who will survive. It beautifully captures the era and setting too.

Dorothy Dunnett writes incredible historical fiction— her Lymond Chronicles are set in the 16th century in Scotland, France, Malta, Turkey, Russia, and Scotland again. The Niccolo series is set in the 15th century and focuses on both commerce and politics and has an even wider geographical range. They are fantastic.
