You may enjoy [The Name of the Rose](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2519) by Umberto Eco which is a history murder mystery novel set in an Italian medical monastery. Lots of history, philosophical debate that was happening around that time, and a simple whodunit.

Edit: adding that this novel is a bit more dense compared to Dan Brown

      * ***The Illuminatus! Trilogy*** **(1975, Science Fiction) by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson** – A satirical and complex science fiction trilogy that delves into conspiracy theories, the occult, and counterculture movements. You could think of it like Dan Brown on acid.

      * ***Little Brother*** **(2008, Science Fiction) by Cory Doctorow** – A science fiction novel that explores themes of surveillance, civil liberties, and the impact of technology on society, set in a near-future San Francisco. This has a kinda follow the breadcrumbs conspiracy feel to it. Younger protagonists, some uncomfortable hyper-realism.

      * ***Snow Crash*** **(1992, Science Fiction) by Neal Stephenson** – A cyberpunk novel that blends science fiction, history, and linguistics, exploring a virtual reality-driven future where a computer virus threatens both the virtual and real worlds. Probably the most fun I ever had reading a book.
