Novels that someone in their 20s can relate and get attached to. Preferably, melancholy or a novel that deals with realistic portrayals of emotion and situations. I don’t know how else to describe it. Any recommendations?
– My Year of Rest and Relaxation (Ottessa Moshfegh)
– The Bell Jar (Sylvia Plath)
– Writers & Lovers (Lily King)
– The Idiot (Elif Batuman) *I absolutely hated this book but a lot of people love it, so take that as you will
– Swimming in the Dark (Tomasz Jedowski) *historical fiction, but relatable for young people who feel disenfranchised by the state of their world
If I had to pick 2 books out of that list I would read The Bell Jar and Writers & Lovers.
