I’m personally atheist, but I wouldn’t say I’ve ever been militantly “anti-religion” the way many atheists are painted. That said, I’m writing a story about a religious family in rural Arkansas, loosely based around the experiences of some friends of mine who used to live there in those types of families. Admittedly, the story does not aim to present the families in a positive light, but I’d like not to approach it from an angle of sheer ignorance. The story isn’t overtly anti-religion so much as “it isn’t for everyone.” If that helps.

I don’t think I need much regarding the long history of the Baptist Church as a whole (I think the internet is fine for that; you’re welcome to recommend any, though! I’d probably still read it), but I’d love something that can illuminate the history of the Southern Baptist Church up until the relatively-modern-day. “The good, the bad, and the ugly,” as it were.
