My friend who doesn’t read recently expressed interest in The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P. by Adelle Waldman but said he was not sure if he could finish the whole thing. He’s just trying to read more.

Any suggestions for contemporary short stories about finding relationships/love? Could be personal essays by an author, fiction, compilations, etc. LGBTQ books very welcome.

    Thank you!

    1. Love in Color by Bolu Babalola was a really nice read — it’s all short stories that are contemporary retellings of love stories from myth or folklore. Most of the couples are straight but there is one queer love story in there.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any adult fiction recommendations, but if he’s okay with YA I’d suggest:

*Color Outside the Lines: Stories About Love* by Sangu Mandanna (editor) – good anthology exploring interracial and LGBTQ+ love stories

*Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet* by Jennifer L Armentrout et al – short stories featuring the first meetings of heterosexual and LGBTQ+ couples

*My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories* by Stephanie Perkins (editor) – winter holiday love stories

*Summer Days and Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories* by Stephanie Perkins (editor) – summer love stories
