Wondering about any fantasy/sci-fi/horror books where the main character is a girl and she’s a total badass. Maybe she doesn’t get taken seriously because she’s a girl, but when the time comes, she shows just how resilient she is. Maybe she didn’t even know how strong she really was until she had to survive.

I also don’t want them to be a cliche. Like a tomboy or like the tomboy woman from the movie aliens. Instead, I’d like to see someone more like the girl from the movie “you’re next” where she’s just a normal person who suddenly shows just how badass she is. You know, that kind of female character. I don’t mind if the character IS a tomboy, I just don’t want to see the tomboy thing being used in a cliche-ish way.

Examples of badass girls in media that I like: Alice from resident evil movies, Jill Valentine from resident evil 3 remake (game), Erin from “you’re next”, the woman from Gerald’s game, Cecilia from the 2020 invisible man, old Lori Strode from Halloween, Halloween kills and Halloween ends

The Death of Mrs Westaway – Ruth Ware (the main character Harriet fits your requirement)

Edit: The Monkeewrench series – PJ Tracy

    2. Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie. It’s actually part of a series of books, but you could easily read it on its own as it only partly touches on the other books. Monza, the main character, is most definitely a badass!

I’m a fantasy gal and my faves are with a badass female mc, so here’s my recs:
Poison study by Maria v snyder,
      Cracked by Eliza crewe,
An ember in the ashes by sabaa tahir,
Six of crows by leigh bardugo,
Children of blood and bone by Tomi Adeyami,
      Red Queen by Victoria aveyard,
Throne of Glass by Sarah j maas,
The Winners Curse by Marie rutkoski,
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black,
      Graceling by Kristin cashore,
      Shatter me by tahereh mafi

Poison study is my ultimate fave, but all of these demonstrate how there’s many different ways for a woman to be strong and badass!
