I want to feel like I’ve been teleported into a whole new world full of fantasy, creatures and Magick! The spicer the better and if not then no big deal, I love the plot twists, world building and character development. I need something that’s always has something going on… bc I can typically easily tell what’s going to happen next and there’s not much excitement left.

    1. I don’t read all that much fantasy, but I see you have no other responses yet so I will try! These are the fantasy novels I have liked.

      * [Sabriel](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/518848.Sabriel) by Garth Nix. Great worldbuilding, start of a series. A little spice.

      * [Shadowmarch](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28694.Shadowmarch), also the start of a series. Slower paced and more focused on characters than Sabriel. The author has written a lot of other fantasy, but this series is the only one I’ve read.

      * The [Fortress series](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57017.Fortress_in_the_Eye_of_Time) by C. J. Cherryh. Writing style is slower paced and even *more* focused on characters than the above. Lots of emphasis on love, whether that is platonic, romantic, or sexual, but I wouldn’t call it spicy.

      * [The Fifth Season](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19161852-the-fifth-season), first in a trilogy. Lots of twists and turns and a unique post apocalyptic magical world. A little spice, a lot of brutality and tragedy.

      * [The Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54369251-a-wizard-s-guide-to-defensive-baking), a stand alone book. No spice, but a very fun read that also manages to have some serious stakes.

      * [Three Parts Dead](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13539191-three-parts-dead), also part of a series but I’ve only read this first book. This is urban fantasy, unlike the others on the list. Has some spice.

    2. If you’re willing to look outside the American market I’d recommend Ascendance of a Bookworm.

The main character is a newly graduated college student about to start her dream job as a librarian. She dies crushed to death by her book collection and wakes up in a medieval(ish) fantasy world in the body of a sick 5 year old.

You learn about the culture and magic system of this world with her and see her use her knowledge from our world to improve the lives of those around her while starting a technological revolution through her inventions. Some will want to work with her to change the world while others want to exploit her or even destroy her.
