Books that are hard to read because they are written very advanced. I wanna get my Lexile level higher and I feel like I need to read books with complex words in order to step up my English level. I want to be top in my Ap English class.

It can be any book, I don’t care about the genre

The Hobbit, or anything by Tolkien will work to increase the breadth of vocabulary. You might also try James Joyce – Dubliners, not Ulysses. Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, Shogun by James Clavell, anything by Barbara Kingsolver, The Secret History by Donna Tartt.

    2. Just read older books.

But also, don’t sweat lexiles or other arbitrary rankings. Just read a lot.

    3. I read somewhere that Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN contains most of the words used on the SAT Verbal test.

China Mieville will never use a five cent word when they can shoehorn in a ten dollar one.

Nobody does sentence structure quite like Salman Rushdie

I agree with the post that simply says to read more and focus on older books. But for an author recommendation, check out Salman Rushdie.
