Long time Reddit lurker here so this is my first post. I’ve recently have really gotten into fantasy books series. Most of them are by female authors, namely Sarah J Maas. My dad has been trying to get me to read The Wheel of Times books, they’re his all time favorite. I read the Hobbit years ago, it was alright, and tried (many moons ago as a young teen) to read LOTR, and I just really didn’t enjoy them (loved the movies though). I think it’s mostly the male author aspect and the spice level, I enjoy a little bit of spice in my books if you know what I mean, though it’s not a necessity. Anyways, would I enjoy the WOT series, or are they a tough read? My dad isn’t sure I’ll be able to do it, and I desperately want to prove him wrong, however, I don’t want him to give them to me if I’ll totally hate the writing style and waste my time lol.

The depiction of women might throw u off. Jordan was very much of his time. I read the first 9 back in the day and they r fun enough but tough to get through imo

    2. I would definitely give The Wheel of Time a try. Just based on the little bit of your description, it sounds like I am like your father.

I started reading this series in high school when it was incomplete. Every time Robert Jordan released a new book I would read all of the books up to that point.

This means I’ve read the older books in that series several times. So, yes I would recommend the series.

It sounds like he is willing to give you his books if you will read them and you don’t want that, for lack of a better term, responsibility.

If you are concerned, then don’t take him up on the offer unless you are hooked. You might be able to find the books in a local library (they’re not that old).

If it’s available in your area, you might check out Libby. This app goes through libraries and you can download the books in E Book and audiobook format.

The only thing I would definitely not recommend is to watch the Amazon series supposedly based on this series. They really did a horrible job, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

    3. Book reading is not a feats of strength quest, you don’t have to read them just to prove to your dad that you can. The WOT series is not one of those incomprehensible books that people study for years just to get through, there’s not skill in finishing them, just time.

You might like one or two? I read a few many years ago in my “read the biggest books possible” phase and they were fine but they didn’t stick with me the way, idk, Patricia A McKillip did, nor did I bother working my way through the whole darn stack of them.

They’re not a tough read in that it’s not particularly dense or challenging writing but they’re doorstoppers and there’s a ton of them, that’s just so many hours of reading something you actually enjoy to give up if you’re not into them.
