    Books I’ve liked
    – A Song of Ice and Fire main series
    – Tenth of December by George Saunders
    – Remains of the Day
    – The Road and No Country for Old Men
    – Bad Behavior by Mary Gaitskill
    – Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs
    – Florida by Lauren Groff
    – Harry Potter main series
    – Misery by Stephen King
    – The Call of the Wild and White Fang by Jack London
    – Dying Earth series by Jack Vance

I keep trying to read George Eliot, Joyce, Dickens, Poe, etc and I like them in theory and I want to enjoy the stories and characters but I’m frankly just not that literate. The prose is too dense and I didn’t do enough reading as a juvenile to develop my attention span or imagination.

It’s all about character and voice for me. I just want something character driven and with an accessible and unpretentious narrative voice. Somewhere where pop meets art.

I really want to be the kind of guy who devours literature but I’m really picky and easily distracted. The books listed above have held my attention. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Btw yes I’ve looked at other offerings from these authors and none have tripped my trigger as much as the titles listed.

    2. Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden (a great thriller with streamlined prose and a memorable MC)

Bone White by Ronald Malfi (Alaska-set horror by an author with some Stephen King vibes)
