I read a lot in high school, things like the vampire diaries, twilight, Harry Potter, Vladimir Tod lol, sookie stackhouse/ true blood books. Well I’m getting back into reading again and currently I’m reading the first book to a court of thorns and roses. I’m contemplating if I want to read the game of thrones series bc I’ve seen the show and idk if I’ll like the book but was hoping that people would be able to suggest me some books based off those interest?

    1. The Game of Thrones books aren’t the best for getting back into reading, I’d say. In general they aren’t the best for people who don’t have a photographic memory and an interest in family chronologies. As far as I remember they are 50% exciting, interesting, well-written if brutal fantasy, and 50% they consist of lists and lists of names, where you never know which of them you need to remember.

If you’re thinking about reading that kind of fantasy, I’d read the Hobbit first.

Generally I can recommend Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, because I think his unusual and surprising storytelling can really draw the reader in. Which I think is perfect for trying to reignite the ‘reading-spark’.

If you want more magic school stories, I think The Atlas Six, The Poppy War, and Babel would be a good place to start.
