What the title says. I’m looking for some books to fit my mood and I’m having the hardest time. It’d also be fun to be able to search outside of the box sometime and widen my reading scope.
I saw a post with people joking about what books they’d swipe left on, but that made me wonder if there were actually any good apps for recommendations?
I’ve tried asking Reddit (some great insights but no luck with that I’m looking for atm), browsing the bookstore in person like the olden days, a few websites but they were all pretty lacking. I heard ChatGPT is helpful but I haven’t found any good ones that let you ask without paying.
Anyway, how do you find your next favorite reads?

i get good recommendations from “storygraph.” it’s like goodreads, but more involved. it has a section on it that suggests books. some of them are things that i’ve picked up from the library and liked a lot. some are things that are adjacent to things i already like that i just haven’t gotten around to reading yet. it’s worth a shot, anyway.
What works for me surprisingly well is to ask chatgpt. I tell it some of my fav books or authors and let me give some suggestions for next reads.
I go to the book store and browse for a long time until I randomly find some books that I like and I give them a shot
I ask at my local Barnes & Noble (we no longer have a locally owned bookstore) and library and they never fail.
Right now, it’s finding the books of authors who influenced the people I am inspired by.
