My daughter (age 6, 1st grade) loves to read and can read above her grade level, but we are still working on reading stamina. She loved Mercy Watson, Princess in Black, and the Breyer horse books. She can handle the vocabulary of Dragon Masters, Zoey and Sassafras, and Cornbread and Poppy, but she can’t read long enough to read a whole chapter and then she gets frustrated. Can you suggest early chapter books with short chapters and complex words?

my kiddo also struggled with reading stamina at that age! i’d recommend trying out the Ivy and Bean series and Junie B. Jones books. they have short chapters and engaging stories that might keep her interested!

Misty of Chincoteague, if she likes horses.

      The Boxcar Children series

      Amelia Bedelia

And I’m not sure if a six year old would dig them honestly the early American Girl books were some of my favorites growing up. I had the whole series for Molly and Kirsten, and some of the books for Felicity and Addy.

    3. Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon

The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith, also Mr Potter’s Pet, the Sheep-Pig

The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong
