You’re reading a romance novel or one with a major romantic subplot and then the designated love interest of the female (or male) protagonist does something that hurts the protagonist and you hate them for it, and wish they didn’t end up together… but sure, they end up together.

Due to the nature of this discussion, spoilers from the books are included.

    Example of how to write:

Gideon de Villiers from *The Ruby Red Trilogy*.

\>!spoiler here!<In the second book, Gwendolyn discovers from another character that Gideon romanced her for the purpose of controlling her better, and when she confronts him, he denies pretending to fall in love with her, but he doesn’t deny cheating on her. And I wanted to slap him in his beautiful face. Many times. But of course, he’s the male lead, so in the third book he earns Gwen’s forgiveness and they end up together. I’m over it nowadays, but at the time it made me a little angry.
