I am getting into to the horror and thriller genre. I currently just read a few titles like Lovecraft country, world war z, pet cemetery, and them wake up. But I want to get exposed to more horror books of different culture, countries and communities. I am not that interested in slashers or killers, I am more a supernatural or sci-fi person, especially if what is happening is still not clear. I am not trying to be disturb or traumatized so not recommend me the most disturbing things. Everything that is not from USA or written by white male authors apply.

Bora Chung’s short story collection, Cursed Bunny, has some great stories, but based on what you said, I’d avoid one (Snare) because it discusses child abuse, animal abuse, and SA.

    2. From Belgium : Malpertuis by Jean Ray. The tale of a house inhabited by a strange family. It is atmospheric, strange and dark.

_The Devourers_ by Indra Das: a supernatural story with shape-shifters who inhabit the fringes of society in India.

_Mexican Gothic_ by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: an eerie supernatural story that blurs the boundary between the living and dead with ghostly apparitions and paranormal elements.

Both use a rich cultural context, and do a great job at creating an atmosphere of dread.
